Happenin' Weekend in Kittanning

I spent most of this past weekend in Kittanning.

On Saturday, my cousin, Kristie, had her thirty-faux birthday. She decided to have a bonfire to celebrate, which of course meant it stormed for most of the afternoon/ early evening. Eventually, the rain cleared out and we were all able to head outside for our picnic supper. The food was excellent and all the little kids running around were so cute. I'd post some pictures, but when I turned my camera on that night, all I got was a black screen and a "change battery pack" notice.

On Sunday, my Aunt Janet hosted our annual family reunion. My grandma took her famous fried chicken that she makes in her cast iron skillet that she got as a wedding present in the early 1940's. *Yum... SOOOOOO goood!!!!* Kristie and I were in charge of selling 50/50 tickets and we collected $200. Next year, I think we should charge a commission so we also make a profit.

Here is the only picture I took on Sunday

Update on what happens when I am bored

I decided to keep the ugly blue 1998 prom shoes for Lilster to play with when she comes to visit me in a few years. Her mom and I had so much fun playing dress up as kids, I figured I'd start saving some weird clothing items for her.

This is what happens when I get bored...

I was bored today, so I decided to clean out my closet. I never know what I will find once I start cleaning. Today I found:
- signed Mario Lemieux Sports Illustrated from the Cup win in 1992
- pictures of Jaromir Jagr when he still had his mullet
- old VHS tapes of Penguin games from the 1990s
- a shirt and a skirt that I forgot I owned because they had fallen off the hangers and were laying on the closet floor
- and these.....

my *lovely* prom shoes ... does anything say 1998 more than square toe shoes???

Kris Letang autograph signing

Last Tuesday, I went to the South Hills to attend a Kris Letang autograph signing at Giant Eagle. It started at 12:00, but because of an appointment that ran late, I wasn't able to get there until 12:20. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, that I'd maybe have to wait about 30 minutes or so, but when I walked in, I could see the line snaking through the store. I ended up talking to a group of people who were in line behind me and we were told that they couldn't promise that our section of the line would get through in time before he left at 2:00. I then overheard some of the GE staff saying that there were over 600 people in line. We started out in Aisle 13 and by 1:20 had only made it to Aisle 8. I was really starting to think that there was no way in the world that I'd get close enough, but luckily the people I was waiting in line with were extremely nice. They knew someone who was about 6 aisles in front of us, so they took my stuff over to the friend they knew. So, despite the fact that I did not get to be at the table when my stuff got signed, I am now the proud owner of a Kris Letang autograph! :O)

Here are some of the pictures I was able to get, even with the "No photographs, please" signs they had hanging up.

Stanley Cup Playoffs Round 2, Game 4- Pens vs Caps

I was really nervous heading to this game. If the Pens lose, they go down 3-1 in the series, which is basically the end. Before the Pens took the ice, I kept pacing back and forth in front of my seat- I think the people behind me wanted to tell me to sit down, but luckily they didn't. It might not have been pretty :O)

When the Caps took the ice, Ovechkin, being the idiot ass that he is, and two other Capitals took a few of of the pucks laying on the ice and shot them into the Penguins net on their way to their own net. It goes against hockey code and if had been during the game, there definitely would have been a scrum because of it.

Washington scored in the first minute of the game and I planned on it being a LOOOOOOOOONG night. Luckily, Gonch scored about 4 minutes later to tie the game and the Pens took a 3-1 lead by the end of the 1st and ended up winning the game.

Scuds and Gill were incredible defending against Ovechkin and seriously didn't get nearly enough credit in this series, or the entire playoffs for that matter.

Stanley Cup Playoffs- Round 1, Game 2 Pens vs Flyers

Now, that the playoffs are over, I can go back and blog about the games that I was lucky enough to get to go to!

Game 2 was crazy. Any game that involves the Penguins and the Flyers is always interesting (last time I went to a Pens/Flyers game, a guy had a blow up doll hanging out of his car window in the parking lot... 'nough said)! For the most part, everyone wa respectful and only booed fans in Flyers jerseys. It was loud in the arena for most of the game until the Flyers took the lead, then it got pretty quiet.

The Pens were losing toward the end of the 3rd, but managed to tie it up before the end of the period, which meant... OVERTIME. Overtime is nervewracking enough watching it on tv, but that is nothing compared to being there in person. Every shot, turnover, and rush up ice is magnified by 100. But, thanks to Billy G, the Pens won and took a 2-0 lead in the series.
